Galactus is a cosmic entity from the Marvel Universe, originating in the comic books.
Originally, Galactus was a humanoid named Galan from the planet Taa, existing in a previous universe. As his universe approached its end, Galan merged with the Sentient of the Universe to become Galactus. He was reborn into the new Marvel Universe.
Galactus possesses immense cosmic power, but requires consuming the energy of planets to sustain himself. This makes him a frequent threat to inhabited worlds. His hunger is a constant driving force in his existence.
Galactus first appeared in *Fantastic Four* #48 (March 1966).
